Football Fun Throughout February
Throughout the month of February, Kingsacre Care Home is participating in the 28-day challenge with Fit Baw.
Fit-Baw is an award-winning, transformational care home programme that gets residents fit and active through the beautiful game of football. Fit-Baw ambassadors visit care homes to teach the residents basic ball skills. It starts with seated exercises, incorporating repetitive actions using different parts of the body.
Once residents feel comfortable, they can have a go at standing and moving the ball with their feet, then residents have a chance at shooting the ball into a goal. Residents then can participate in Speed Agility Quickness exercises which really test residents' flexibility, balance, control, speed, cognitive function and much more.
Residents at our care home in Clydebank were delighted to participate in some football exercises which brought many of the residents' back to their younger days. The sessions can be tailored to residents' abilities to make it easier for some and harder for others, but most importantly, enjoyed by all.
Partaking in physical activity and group games such as football helps to improve residents' cardiovascular health, muscle strength, bone strength, stamina and coordination. Residents have had a ball with the visitors from Fit-Baw who have been visiting Kingsacre every week in February.
The February 28-day challenge consists of 4 weekly sessions with one of the coaches and at the end of the month, certificates are provided to each participant. Thank you to Paul and the team for creating engaging sessions each week, our residents have loved taking part.
We are also delighted to announce that Millie, our Activities Coordinator was nominated for the Live well ambassador award for the company awards. Millie has done an amazing job of organising a variety of activities for our residents, keeping them engaged and helping them to learn new skills which also encourages social opportunities. Well done Millie!
