Musical March

Residents Sitting In The Cinema Room

Residents at Kingsacre Care Home had a wonderful time in March, enjoying lots of musical activities. There was a musical performance at the Golden Friendship Club, where a band played on the big stage and got everyone tapping their feet and singing along. Some individuals got up to dance in the middle of the room with staff and loved ones.

The Golden Friendships Club is run by a community organisation at Clydebank Community Hall that provides the perfect opportunity for residents to meet with others of a similar age within the local area as well as play games, form conversations and get their bodies moving.

There was a movie afternoon in the cinema room with a showing of the classic My Fair Lady which brought lots of wonderful memories back to residents when the film was first released in 1964.

Oomph on Demand hosted a sing-a-long session for residents to sing along to their favourite songs, who were also given a song sheet with all the lyrics written inside. Oomph on Demand is an online well-being and activities platform that presents engaging activity ideas, exercise inspiration, and training tools in an easy-to-access way, which allows staff in a care home setting to use their content with their residents.

We like to incorporate musical activities as often as possible at Kingsacre Care Home in West Dunbartonshire, as there are numerous benefits to this.

Listening and singing to music can benefit older people, especially those living with dementia. For one, music can evoke memories and emotions, which can be particularly powerful for individuals with dementia who may have difficulty with other forms of communication.

Familiar songs of one's past can bring back memories and emotions, providing a sense of comfort and connection. Listening to calming music can help promote relaxation and a sense of calm, which can have a positive impact on mental health. Actively engaging in singing and dancing can help improve cardiovascular health, increase energy levels, and promote social interaction between residents.

We look forward to continuing with our musical activities at Kingsacre Care Home.
