¡Vamos! Residents Say Hola to Spanish with Lingo Flamingo

Lingo Flamingo Spanish Lessons at Kingsacre Care Home

There’s a vibrant new rhythm to Thursdays at Kingsacre Care Home, as residents gather each week for their Spanish lessons with Lingo Flamingo, and it’s safe to say, these sessions have quickly become a favourite.

From cheerful greetings like “¡Hola!” to learning how to ask for a café or count in Spanish, our residents are embracing the language with real enthusiasm. These colourful, confidence-boosting classes are about so much more than vocabulary, they’re helping residents keep their minds active, spark joyful conversations, and enjoy something new together.

Our beautifully decorated lounge, complete with a Colombian flag, has been the perfect backdrop for these educational sessions. As you can see in the photos, residents are fully engaged and everyone is supporting one another, whatever their level of experience.

The classes are delivered by the brilliant team at Lingo Flamingo, a social enterprise that believes everyone should have the chance to keep learning, regardless of age. Their tutors are specially trained to deliver language sessions tailored for older adults and those living with dementia, ensuring each lesson is both accessible and enjoyable.

There’s also a strong evidence base behind the sessions. Learning a second language in later life has been shown to improve memory, boost cognitive function and support mental wellbeing – all while offering a fun and sociable way to connect. The gentle challenge of mastering new sounds and words can be especially powerful in care settings, where stimulation and variety are key to living well.

We’re incredibly proud to be working with Lingo Flamingo, whose mission aligns perfectly with ours – to offer meaningful opportunities that bring joy, connection and a sense of purpose to our residents’ days. At Kingsacre, we believe it’s never too late to try something new. To learn more about life in our home and how we support residents to stay active and connected, get in touch today to arrange a visit.
