What is Dementia Care?

Dementia is a neurological condition that affects a person’s mental abilities in various ways, often resulting in challenges related to thinking, speech and memory, especially in older individuals. However, with the appropriate support and care, those living with dementia can lead fulfilling lives with the support of an experienced care team.

At Kingsacre, we understand and respect the individuality of each resident. Every person’s journey with dementia is unique; some may require minimal assistance, while others may need more comprehensive care. Our approach to caring for residents centres around their wants and needs. We aim to help them maintain their independence and sense of self for as long as possible. We recognise that no two people are alike, and our care is tailored to meet the specific needs of each resident, promoting their well-being and quality of life.

Dementia Care at Kingsacre Care Home

Kingsacre strives to provide a secure and friendly environment for those living with Dementia. Our teams receive ongoing specialised training in the most up-to-date dementia practices and research techniques, ensuring that only the very best care and support are being provided for effective results.

We ensure all staff are trained in The SSSC Promoting Excellence framework, with many staff holding advanced-level qualifications within this framework. The SSSC Promoting Excellence framework details the knowledge and skills staff should aspire to achieve in relation to the role they play in supporting people with a diagnosis of dementia, and their families, and carers. It is underpinned by values and principles that reflect what people with dementia, and their families and carers have said are most important to them.

Together with family and loved ones our staff take time to get to know our residents on a personal level in order to create an accurate picture of their life, in order to enhance their ongoing happiness, comfort, and well-being at our dementia care home in West Dunbartonshire.

Dementia Care FAQs

Prior to moving into Kingsacre Care Home, we arrange for a consultation with our Home Manager and the prospective resident and their loved ones to ensure we can meet their individual needs. We work with them to understand their routines, interests, and preferences which we then ensure are considered when implementing their personalised care plans. We use a person-centred approach to care and it is our goal to help residents keep their independence and dignity whilst ensuring they know we are here for them whenever they need support.

We invest in the training and development of our staff and when it comes to our dementia care team, they undergo training as necessary to ensure they are kept up to date with the latest in dementia care and support. We ensure our team has the experience and knowledge required to provide effective care to our residents with dementia, including support with personal care, activities, therapies, communication, mobility, medication management, and much more.

At Kingsacre Care Home, we provide a varied activities programme for all of our residents which includes both group and 1:1 activities and therapies. For example, our arts & crafts sessions are held regularly and we also provide music therapy, reminiscence activities, and sensory sessions. The activities and therapies we offer are designed to support the physical, mental, and emotional well-being of all residents, including those with dementia.

At Kingsacre Care Home, we require a 28-day notice period for residents receiving any of our long-term care types and are looking to move out. Our compassionate team are on hand around the clock to support you with your moving transition and answer any further questions you have.
